Ercros obtains sodium salt for industrial uses at its Cardona (Barcelona) facility, by processing saline residues that are to be found in the slag heaps formed by the old potash extraction processes. Annual production is in excess of 500,000 tons.

The salt obtained in Cardona is used as feedstock in the chlorine industry. The Ercros Flix and Vila-seca (Tarragon) plants are the main users of this product, which is also sold, to a lesser extent, to other companies in Spain.

Similarly, since 1980, the salt flats located on the right bank of the Odiel river marshlands, at just a kilometre from Huelva, supply salt for the electrolytic processes at the Palos de la Frontera plant.
