The Sabiñánigo hydrogen peroxide unit, which came on stream in 1999, is able to produce 10,000 tons annually, enabling Ercros to join the select group of companies worldwide who have the technology to manufacture this product.
The hydrogen peroxide synthesis is done using the anthraquinones process, with the anthraquinones acting as carriers for the combination of hydrogen, obtained by electrolysis at the same plant, and oxygen, these being the main feedstock used to manufacture it. Some of the hydrogen peroxide produced is used at the Sabiñánigo industrial facility itself to produce sodium chlorite.
