Chlorinated solvents represent a sizable portion of the Company’s production at Flix (Tarragona) not merely in terms of their contribution to overall sales, but also because they use a large proportion of the chlorine produced at the plant.
Current capacity is in excess of 50,000 tons per annum for the three basic solvents taken as a whole: perchloroethylene, methylene chloride and carbon tetrachloride.
Ercros exports 86% of the solvents it manufactures, primarily to other EU members, the US, the Far East and China.
Perchloroethylene
Ercros is the sole Spanish manufacturer of perchloroethylene and the leading seller in Spain. This product is used for dry cleaning clothes and as a metal degreaser in the car and steel industries.
The company exports 60% of its production to a large number of countries.

Methylene chloride is used as a solvent for paints and varnishes and to manufacture a wide range of aerosols.
Ercros exports 33% of its production to other EU members.

Carbon tetrachloride
The carbon tetrachloride manufactured at Flix is an excellent grease solvent. This product is utilised for essential uses within the scope of Section 1 of Article 5 of the Montreal Protocol.
Ercros exports 95% of its carbon tetrachloride production.
