The OPCW is an organization commissioned to implement the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention to achieve a world free of chemical weapons and the threat of their use.

In collaboration with the Business Federation of the Spanish Chemical Industry ("Feique"), the OPCW has developed a program that seeks to train people with education in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to apply the principles of the Convention on Chemical Weapons in the world, which is oriented, mainly, to officials from developing countries or emerging economies.

The nine-week course allows participants to get in touch with the OPCW activities as well as to practice in a modern chemical industrial plants. In the case of Ercros, Angélica Reyes, from Panama, who has a degree in chemicals, and María León, from Venezuela, who is chemical engineer, took part in the program.

The practices have had two aspects: on the one hand, under the supervision of Rosa Ferràs, head of the prevention department of the Tortosa factory, the students have carried out activities to review and update the risks associated with the handling of chemical products and work in laboratory; and on the other, within the R&D department and with the collaboration of technicians of the department supervised by their responsible Teresa Camarasa, they have characterized several resins by means of different analytical techniques.

The experience has been very profitable for all the people who have participated in it and the results obtained can be applied in ongoing projects. Ercros expects to continue collaborating in the future with similar actions.
