Sabiñánigo, October 26, 2021. - The Ercros factory in Sabiñánigo has performed this morning a training exercise for the personnel of the Military Emergency Unit (“UME”) on the handling of chlorine in the event of an accident.
The exercise consisted of simulating an accident involving a chlorine loaded tanker truck, which required the transfer of this product to a new tanker.
The workshop has started with a theoretical training on chlorine, its risks and means and security measures, and a practical training, with the accident simulation carried out by the emergency brigade of the Sabiñánigo factory.
This training is part of the agreement signed between the Business Federation of the Spanish Chemical Industry ("Feique") and the UME. On behalf of the UME, personnel from the Intervention Group in Technological and Environmental Emergencies (Gietma), based in Torrejón de Ardoz have attended, and, on the part of Feique, representatives of companies and associations that make up the safety commission, have acted as observers.
The Ercros factory in Sabiñánigo employs 218 workers and in 2020 had a turnover of 93 million euros. It is focused on the production of chlorine, caustic soda and the chlorinated derivatives sodium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid; tablets for the treatment of swimming pool water; sodium chlorite and chlorate; and hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. 58% of its production is destined for export.
