Antonio Zabalza Martí

Professional trajectory

Born in 1946 in Linyola (Lleida), he holds a degree and doctorate in Economics from the University of Barcelona and an M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the London School of Economics (University of London). He was postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago, full professor in the Department of Economics at the London School of Economics and professor of Economic theory at the University of Valencia.

Since 1996 he has been chairman and CEO of Ercros. Previously, he had held various positions in the central public administration, including secretary general for Planning and budgets, secretary of state for Finance and manager of the cabinet of the Presidency of the Government.

He has repeatedly acted as a consultant to the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the OECD.

He has also been a member of the board of directors of Minas de Almadén; Transmediterránea; Instituto Nacional de Industria; Instituto de Crédito Oficial; Iberia and Instituto Nacional de Hidrocarburos.

Within the chemical sector, he has been chairman of the Spanish association of large energy consumers (Aege) and of the Catalan chemical industry federation (Fedequim), and vice-chairman of the Spanish chemical industry federation (Feique).
