Ercros appoints Nuno de Almeida as new director of its pharmaceuticals division

Ercros has made effective the appointment of Nuno Duarte de Almeida as the new director of the pharmaceuticals division, replacing Mª Carmen Cruzado, on the occasion of her retirement. Duarte de Almeida, who joined the company last September as deputy director of the division, has also assumed the management of the Aranjuez factory.

Nuno Duarte de Almeida, a graduate in Mechanical Engineering, brings to the company more than 30 years of international experience, closely linked to the pharmaceutical and automotive industries. His extensive career in Hovione Chemistry stands out, where he held positions of high responsibility in the areas of operations and engineering. During his career at Hovione and later in other companies, he has been a key player in the execution of expansion, innovation and industrial investment strategies with an impact on the markets of Europe, Asia and North America.

Duarte de Almeida will continue the strategy of diversifying the division's portfolio of products and services, with the aim of strengthening Ercros' presence in the pharmaceutical industry. To this end, it will rely on the extensive experience and technical and regulatory knowledge of the team at the Aranjuez factory.

Ercros thanks Mª Carmen Cruzado for her dedication and contribution during her 37 years of professional career in the company. Incorporated in 1989 to the R+D area of Aranjuez and director of the pharmaceuticals division since 2010, she has promoted the international growth of this activity and has maintained a prominent participation in the defense of the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) in Europe.

Ercros' pharmaceuticals division has more than 75 years of experience in the development and manufacture of APIs, supplying its products to pharmaceutical companies in more than 70 countries. Its activity combines industrial fermentation, chemical synthesis and sterile production capabilities, together with an integrated offer of CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) services for the development, technology transfer, scale-up and industrialization of processes. Among the products in its portfolio are different fosfomycins and erythromycins, as well as their derivatives, as well as fusidic acid, famotidine and amlodipine besylate.
