UB students visit Terrera Nova in Cardona

A group of students from the course Restoration of Mines and Quarries: Recovery of Ecosystem Services and Biodiversity in the Master's program in Ecology, Management, and Restoration of the Natural Environment at the University of Barcelona visited the former Terrera Nova quarry site in Cardona.
The day began with a brief presentation by Pere Marsinyach, manager of the Cardona plant, who recounted the history of mining in the municipality and the origin of these saline deposits during potash mining.
Then, Montserrat Jorba, a professor in the Master's program and coordinator of the rehabilitation project that Ercros is carrying out in the area, detailed the work completed to date. During her presentation, she emphasized the technical complexity of the project due to the high salinity of the soil, a factor that significantly limits the plant species capable of establishing themselves in this type of terrain.
The students highly praised the environmental work that Ercros is undertaking in the area and thanked the company for its collaboration.
