The Almussafes factory improves all sustainability indices

In 2020, the Ercros factory in Almussafes reduced its total emissions rate, greenhouse gas emissions and its accident rates.

Specifically, the emissions index -which measures the substances emitted into the air and water and the generation of waste- fell by 36% compared to 2019 and 62% compared to the average of the last five years. In the case of direct greenhouse gas emissions, the year-on-year reduction was 7.5% and, compared to the average for the last five years, 13.4%.

In terms of safety, in 2020, the Almussafes factory did not have any accidents among its own personnel, a fact that earned it the recognition of the Business Federation of the Spanish Chemical Industry (Feique), which awarded it the Feique 2020 Safety Award. Last year, the general accident frequency index fell by 47% compared to the previous year and by 36.5% if we compare it with the average of the last five years. This index measures accidents between internal and external personnel (with and without sick leave) for every million hours worked.

This center is certified for environmental management according to ISO 14001 and occupational safety management according to ISO 45001; and verified their CO2 emissions in accordance with the ISO 14064 standard.

Ercros' performance in all aspects of sustainability has earned it the Platinum classification, awarded by the international EcoVadis rating, obtaining a score of 81 out of 100; With this score, Ercros is among the 1% with the best compliance with ESG criteria (environmental, social and governance) of the 75,000 companies evaluated. Likewise, the company has been certified as a CSR Company in the Excellence category, by the Responsible Care program of the global chemical sector.

The Almussafes factory is part of the Ercros intermediate chemicals division. It directly employs 109 people and in 2020 it had a turnover of close to 60 million euros. It exports 65% of its production and is the world leader in the paraformaldehyde market. Almussafes also produces the range of green resins, ErcrosGreen+, whose emission level is similar to that of natural wood, and the range of technical resins, Ercros Tech, intended for high-performance applications (decorative laminates, can coatings for use in food, etc.).
