Ercros, committed to sustainable transport

Ercros, a pioneering company in analysing emissions from its distribution chain, joins the celebration of World Sustainable Transport Day and commits to reducing its CO₂ emissions to protect the planet.

In this context, the company expects to make a significant leap thanks to the increase in the maximum authorized mass for national transport of articulated vehicles with five or more axles, included in the new General Vehicle Regulations. 98% of the vehicles that load or unload at Ercros are of this type.

The possibility of using trucks of up to 44 tons, compared to the current 40 tons, means being able to load 16% more product and, therefore, significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and other pollutants per ton transported.

Currently, Ercros implements various measures to reduce transport emissions, such as prioritizing the use of less polluting means (intermodal maritime, land, and pipelines); using more advanced trucks with lower emissions; establishing product distribution warehouses closer to customers to minimize travel distances; optimizing vehicle load; and contracting shipping lines for certain routes with more environmentally friendly alternative fuels.

In 2013, the company participated in a pilot program to calculate emissions in intermodal maritime transport and, since 2019, an external entity evaluates and certifies emissions annually throughout its supply chain, including all means of transport.
