The mayor of Aranjuez visits the Ercros factory and highlights its security

The Ercros factory in Aranjuez, which makes up the company's pharmacy division, received a visit today from the town's mayor, Miguel Gómez Herrero, who wanted to highlight the strategic nature and security of this production centre. The institutional delegation was received by Mª Carmen Cruzado, director of the pharmacy division and the Aranjuez factory of Ercros.
Known in the city as “the penicillin”, the factory has been active since 1951, when it became the first Spanish company to manufacture this antibiotic. Currently, it is dedicated to the production and sale of generic active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), mainly antibiotics, and exports practically all of its production to the European Union, the United States, the Middle East and North Africa. In addition, 90% of its products are considered essential by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Aranjuez factory has a staff of more than 240 people and generates 110 indirect jobs.
The centre has three multipurpose synthesis and fermentation plants, a production and mixing plant for sterile products, and a laboratory and R&D centre. Among its priorities are safety, environmental protection, quality, competitive improvement and energy efficiency.
In the last 10 years, the Ercros pharmacy division has invested 11.4 million euros in safety, 4.7 million in the environment and 1.7 million in R&D, in addition to other investments associated with its industrial activity.
The director of the factory thanked the mayor for his visit and recalled that “the safety of our workers and neighbours is an absolute priority, and we will continue to act with the utmost rigor and responsibility.”
